| Project: "PSX controller adapter" - Building the adaptor cable |
To connect the pads to the panel, we need an adaptor cable so that we don't have to cut our playstation controller's cable. To make this, we will use a playstation controller extension lead, and an 8-pin DIN plug.
| Wiring the adaptor cable |
Take your playstation controller extension lead and cut it in half.
Next, find the male end and strip it so that you have a small length of wires showing. Get out your multimeter and set it to either diode test or resistance. Put one of the multimeter probes on each pin, and match it up with each colour. Make sure you get it right, because you would hate to put 7.6 volts on the 3.5 volt line :).
These are pics of the cut up extension cable. Click for a larger image.Once you have worked out which pin= which colour, assign a number to each colour using this guide:
Next, get the female half, and strip the wires as before. Now get your "which pin number = which colour" list, and wire the female connector to the DIN plug using this guide. Note that pin 8 is NOT used. Also remember to slide the plasic 'boot' over the cable before you start soldering.
You should end up with something similar to this:
Now you are ready to install and configure the software.
